I am a writer, curator and educator. My research lies at the intersection of visual and cultural studies, postcolonial theory, and critical security studies. I'm interested in how violence is perpetuated, packaged, and sold in contemporary culture, and the role of visual art and performance in decolonizing and building community. My essays and reviews have been published in a number of cultural journals and art magazines, and my book Decolonize Museums, edited by Bhakti Shringarpure and published by OR Books and Warscapes, is now available for pre-order.
I completed my PhD in the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at NYU in 2019, and I currently teach high school social studies at an independent school in Philadelphia as well as community-based adult education at the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research. |
